Whether wood, metal, clay, textiles, beads,
leather or mesh, Fredrick Akorli mixes media
to create collections that balance esthetics
and functionality. His home accessories and
jewelry are made from local and often
recycled materials, and his processes are his
own unique creation.
Akorli graduated from the College of Art at
the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science
and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana . He then
worked for Aid to Artisans Ghana as a
designer/trainer. Interacting with
international designers and buyers Akorli
developed a strong sense of international
tastes and formed his own company, Von Art
Arcade, in 2000.
Today, the company supplies international wholesaler buyers
and generates employment for over 50 artisans in Ghana. Akorli has attended
the New York International Gift Fair and California Gift Shows and is
represented by a number of US and European distributors.
"My joy is to create employment for people, because in our sector getting a job
is very dicult. Since I am able to access the market, I am proud to be able to
provide employment to others".
